Interior Styling For Lifestyle Floors

In November, I was asked to style all the latest flooring trends for Lifestyle Floors. I found one of the best location houses in London to shoot these looks in with a peach kitchen. My client was super creative and very open-minded. It was my dream shoot! It was my role to select the leading flooring trends and create an interior style shoot.

Below are a few hand-picked images that are now popping up in national newspapers and magazines. And I’ve given a blow-by-blow account of how I styled each shot, with lots of take-away tips you can try out at home 🙂 Plus a round-up of the latest flooring trends too so you are ahead of the pack. Plus you are seeing these images before anyone else.

Trend 1: Blush and Brass

This kitchen got a lot of love on instagram when I posted this image. The peachy blush colour got a lot of likes. The location owners had their inexpensive kitchen units sprayed to match the colour of a pair of trousers. The details in this kitchen design like the brass splashback and kick-plate – give it a high end look. Although it was pretty affordable by all account.s

The most obvious choice to team this with was a faux effect concrete for an urban edge. This is actually a laminate floor tile but it looks like real concrete in the flesh. It’s a much cheaper and easier way to bring this look into your home.

Trend 2: Grey Herringbone

Pale shades, like grey, have become the new neutral for 2018. When it comes to your floor plain grey can be hard to live with expecially in busy homes. That is why herringbone was the ideal choice for this shot. In this ash grey shade it looks fresh and modern (especially when teamed with that retro dining table). We used the homeowners table and I sourced the chairs for the style shoot.

Oh – and in the final shot the photo editors take out the light fitting as it’s doesn’t quite fit with the theme.

Trend 3: Unexpected Flooring

The best thing about working with a client who is creative, is they let a stylist like me experiment. It was my idea to use the same flooring on the walls as on the floor to create a simple Japanese inspired bathroom.

The batik towels and felt slippers were both from Zara Home.

Trend 4: Nordic Calm

As more and more of us work from home, our home office needs to blend seamlessly into our living spaces. That is why a pale pine with an obvious Scandi look and feel was the perfect match.

That magazine rack sets my heart racing.

Trend 5: Mellow Yellow

With spring just around the corner, I was asked to find a trend that would revitalise a space. This muted yellow when teamed with modern botanical prints and textured fabrics just hit the spot. The white washed flooring sits so well in the space too.

We turned around all the books on the shelf so that all the colours in this shot worked in harmony. My lovely, hard working assistant had to turn them all around again after.

The room was actually the living room, but I really like this idea of using an alcove as an alternative bedside table. Don’t you?

Trend Six: Mix and Match

This shot was one of the most popular one from all of them – and has been picked up by the press loads – featuring in Good Homes and Style at home to name just a few. Watch out for it 🙂

It’s hard when your client has a lot of amazing products to show them all in one shot. My idea was to hand cut the vinyl and fix to the risers in contrasting patterns. Isn’t it fun?

My favourite design was the red dotty pattern on the floor which looked so cool. See that slim-line table? It was made from wood left over from my garden makeover and a set of hair pin legs from eBay.

Interior Style Shoot

I have some more exciting news soon as I shoot the next collection for Lifestyle Floors – which I will share on my blog soon….watch this space.

With thanks to my assistant Rosanna (expert stencil painter and fellow interior blogger), the mega creative Penny Wincer who took all these amazing photos for the style shoot. Oh, and all the girls at Crescendo PR and Lifestyle Flooring.
